A Memorial Bench for Riley's Island !!

Greetings Y'all,
What do you all think about donating for a memorial bench in honor of Riley Ann?
We could have it placed beside her cross. I know for a fact that Sheryl would like a memorial bench in honor of Riley Ann and this would be such a wonderful way to honor our little angel. If the bench is big enough we could also have an engraved plague placed on the
bench with the names all the friends who donated towards making this happen. We could make this our reason for getting together
this summer. Maybe even Sheryl and family could come down to Texas for the ceremony. I just love you guys!! Let me know!!

Riley's bench
Does anyone know if Riley's park bench at the park in Galveston survived Hurricane Ike? I certainly hope so! Anyone with information please post!

The bench is ok, and I asked Sheryl and she said she will let us know as soon as she hears anything about the Island and Rileys cross.

I received a email from Greg earlier that said the bench appears to be in good shape. He also said that the cross is MIA. Barbie spoke to Tim Miller of Texas Equusearch who built the original cross, and he said not to worry, that if the cross was indeed gone, he would just build another one and put it on the island. He is truly a wonderful man.

Shelley Bassets am glad to know that the bench survived.please excuse no capitols this is the best i have sometimes i will use other peoples.i was reading old archives ,and i saw that you were thinking about a bench at your condo .i don't know what happened but,i love to donate a small amount so this could became real for you.

These two men are really great! They both work around the clock to serve and help people! We all need to say prayers and just really appreciate these two and all those that serve with them including Barbie! My prayers are with you guys! Please be safe and take care of yourselves! Please do not put yourselves in danger trying to safe others! I know what you do is very important but all your lives are very important as well. And I know that you put your life on the line every time you go out ~ just be careful out there!
Greg ~ so many of the ladies would just die if something where to happen to you! Of course Galveston needs you more than these crazy ladies though! :)
Tim ~ You have helped so many ~ the world needs you to find more ~ I can not wait until you find Caylee! I pray everyday for this!

Riley's Cross on the Island
Tim has indeed promised to build another, identical cross. I am hoping that when I go down to work next time, we will be able to get it out to the island. I am hoping that we can arrange for Tim, Cheryl Lawless, Greg, Jimmy and I to go, if possible. We'll have to see what we can arrange. I just want everyone that needs to be there, to be there. I'll give up my seat if there aren't enough. We were going to try to do it last weekend, then all the searches hit us, and we were unable to do it. But we wouldn't have been able to arrange everyone's schedules around the way we need to anyway. this way should work out better.

I just talked to Susan, Sheryl and Barbiel and I will be able to meet them tomorrow! I am so excited! I am going to take my babydoll with me! I am so excited! I feel so much love with all of the ladies that where there Thursday! I can not wait until tomorrow to see them all again! I guess I need to go to bed!

Ok ~ now that I am at home I can spend more time and write more! Yesterday was so awesome! Meeting Sheryl and Ray for the first time! WOW! Sheryl is just as sweet as she can be and Uncle Ray is something else! Full of jokes and loves the kidos and love the women!
I have loved so many of you just by the emails and this site! But yesterday I have this over whelming love for everyone that was there!

Oh how I wish the entire group could have been there yesterday. What an awesome, awesome day it was. Today, I'm having a hard time, finding myself in tears every few minutes.
Angel Riley, I love you so much. Forever, whenever I look at a child, whether it is my own grandchild or a child I see in passing, your face comes to mind. Thinking of you opens my heart up a little wider with love for all children and reminds me that they are our future. They are the reason that we do everything we do. I was just pulling out my poster board of Riley to take with me! This is the one I made for her birthday party! Which Gramma Kathy helped me with letting me use her poems. And Marsha helped me out so much with the pics she shared with me! I would not have been able to make this without them and their permission to use it! Thank you once again Gramma Kathy and Marsha!
I pulled out the board and just cried! I talked to Riley and told her how much I love her and how I know that she is an angel that is with her grandmother! I looked at all those pics and felt peace and love!

The Bench Dedication

Just wanted to let everyone know that the bench dedication will be held Thursday July 24, in Galveston at 6:00pm
at Menard Park . Sheryl along with her eldest Uncle Ray will be attending the dedication.
Everyone is welcome to attend and meet Sheryl along with Uncle Ray. Looking forward to seeing you all there.

I was wondering who all will be there for the bench dedication to support Sherylann? I wish I could be there. Everyone who goes, please post afterwards to fill in those of us who couldn't be there.

Hubby and I are leaving early in the morning and staying until Sunday. My camera is broken, but we will buy several "throw-away" cameras and get them developed and post pics next week. Oh, how I wish everyone could be there !! I am going to take my laptop, so if there is good internet access at my hotel (and they say there is), I will post messages every night, so watch this site for news !!

Memorial Bench For Riley
Well Ladies I have been doing some looking around on the internet and I have found a bench. It is just a normal cement park bench nothing fancy. I have Major Ray from Galveston County looking for a place to put the bench for me. I am also wanting to place a plaque in the ground in front of the bench that would say that the bench was placed in memory of Riley Ann Sawyers "Baby Grace" with donations from "The Circle Of Friends" The bench it self is approx. $400 and then shipping with liftgate service is another $350. Then there is the plaque and the cost to cement it in the ground. The bench is available in different colors, but I was thinking of a white top and seat with red legs. I am including the web page so that you all may go and check it out. We will need to do this soon as I want to have it in time for the anniversary of her death which is July 24. I am going to be in Galveston at that time and would like to do the dedication on that day. Any one wishing to donate can send the donation to her memorial fund at:

It will take time to make the bench so I would like to be able to order it by at least the middle of June at the latest. I will keep you all posted regarding my visit. I am coming with Uncle Ray this time. Just he and I will be making the trip. Robert has a new job and can not afford to take the time off for a vacation as he will need to take time off for the trial. I hope to meet those of you who are in Texas during my visit. I look forward to visiting the island again and to taking Ray there for his first visit. He is so excited about coming it is all he talks about. Well I better close this now as I have been rambling. I am so excited can't wait to see it. I hope they find a great spot for the bench. I wonder if somewhere along the sea wall would be a good spot. I personally love to go there just to watch the waves coming to shore..It is so peaceful and calming. I'm sure they will find a Great spot for it. I truely hope to meet you and Ray Jr. in July. I will find away to raise money for this project, I have some ideas that I have been tossing around in my head, I just need to pick one and go for it.

Not sure if this is possible, but I was looking thru the site that you linked for us, and there are some very nice round planters that are not too expensive. Would it be possible to include one of these... and plant some flowers.
Lucky Uncle Ray........to make the trip. I can just imagine that he is flying on 'cloud 9' and marking off the days on the calendar.
