Parental Rights Terminated

April 24, 2008)--A family court judge in Galveston has terminated the parental rights of a man sentenced to 25 years in prison for severely burning his 2-month-old daughter in a microwave.

The Galveston County judge ended the parental rights of 20-year-old Joshua Mauldin of Warren, Ark., for his now year-old daughter.

The parental rights of the infant’s mother, Eva Mauldin, also were to be terminated, but a spokeswoman for Child Protective Services says Eva Mauldin's attorney requested more time to correct a paperwork error on a document the woman signed relinquishing her rights.

Mauldin was convicted last month of injury to a child for placing the child in a microwave oven in a Galveston motel for about ten seconds in May 2007.

The child suffered second- and third-degree burns on her left hand, left face and shoulder.

She underwent several surgeries and lost most of her left ear.

The CPS spokeswoman says that the child now lives in College Station with foster parents who will begin the adoption process as soon as Eva Mauldin's rights are ended.
